Grant Thornton 5K

If ever your personal bucket list included running a 5k with a bunch of accountants, then November 3rd was definitely your day to shine!

Last Saturday, accounting professionals from Grant Thornton and accounting students from BYU took part in Grant Thornton’s annual 5k race. With a starting line at the Smith Fieldhouse, the course  wound its way along Canyon Road, North University, 900 East, and South Campus Drive, ultimately making its way back to the Fieldhouse for 3.1 miles of exercise, competition, and fun.

Beta Alpha Psi members could be seen volunteering at the event. Some students, like Christy Weasterston and Chelsie Cook, helped direct the runners through the course. Others, like Lisa Curlee and Spencer Johnson, clipped timing tags off the shoes of participants at the completion of the race.

Students also took advantage of the event by networking with Grant Thornton professionals. Cory McOmber, a first year MAcc student, talked with one GT professional during the race itself! To cap off the event, awards were given to the fastest runners, and prizes were distributed for to those in attendance.

A great success each year, the Grant Thornton 5k provides exercise, enjoyment, and professional opportunities to all who attend. But for those who missed it this year, don’t worry—this bucket list item can be checked off next year, too!
